Horse Training Apprenticeship – Start Your Journey

For those interested in exploring a future career in horse training, Burgeon Sport Horses offers a hands-on Equestrian Apprenticeship Program in the Bay Area. This program is designed to give aspiring professionals real-world experience in what it takes to run a successful horse training business and riding program.

Apprentices receive direct training and mentorship while working with horses at a variety of levels—including young horses just beginning their under-saddle work. This is an immersive opportunity to build strong horsemanship skills, gain confidence, and understand the daily responsibilities of professional trainers.

• 6-month minimum commitment
• 2 days per week (consistent schedule required)
• Must be comfortable riding horses of different training levels
• Willingness to learn, take direction, and work as part of a team

Apprentices will participate in the core duties of a working barn, including:

• Daily horse care & barn chores
• Feeding & grooming
• Show grooming & assisting trainers at competitions
• Setting jump courses
• Riding and exercising horses

Apprentices who complete the program may be invited to stay on as part of the Burgeon Sport Horses team. Qualified graduates can grow into paid instructor positions within our Riding School and continue developing their professional career in horse training.
